The anonymously commissioned Georgia Guidestones under the pseudonym R. C. Christian hired Elberton Granite Finishing Company to build the structure in June 1979 and it was erected March 22, 1980. The Georgia Guidestones is a large granite monument in Elbert County, Georgia. The structure is sometimes called The American Stonehenge. The monument is exactly 18 feet high (6 + 6 + 6 = 18), and made from six granite slabs weighing more than 240,000 pounds in all.
There ten guidelines inscribed on the structure in eight modern languages, and there is a shorter message inscribed at the top of the structure in four ancient languages' scripts: Babylonian, Classical Greek, Sanskrit, and Egyptian hieroglyphs.
The first of the ten "guidelines" of the Georgia Guidestones states, "Maintain humanity under 500,000,000 in perpetual balance with nature." The second of the ten "guidelines" likewise has to do with population control. The second says, "Guide reproduction wisely - improving fitness and diversity."
